Marko Stupar

Marko Stupar was born on November 11, 1936, in Vodenica, near Bosanski Petrovac, Bosnia, and passed away in Paris in 2021. His childhood, marked by war and hardship, led him to seek refuge in drawing, sketching landscapes of Yugoslavia until age 16. He later worked as an engineer in a machine tool factory while attending evening classes at the Belgrade School of Fine Arts. During this time, he cultivated his artistic eye through frequent visits to museums, discovering a passion for Impressionist masters like Monet and Renoir.

At 28, Stupar moved to Paris, inspired by its charm. Captivated by the city’s urban landscapes, he began painting them and gained recognition, starting at Place du Tertre under a pseudonym. His international career flourished, earning awards like the Taylor Foundation Grand Prix in 2006. His works are featured in museums across Bosnia, France, and the United States. Celebrated as one of the last post-Impressionists, he brought a unique "Slavic Touch" to the movement.
